Expressions of interest please by 24 February. Must be well organised and have a mobile phone and internet access. The role involves researching accommodation in Brisbane, booking accommodation, researching transport and making sure that everyone is in the right place at the right time, during the events, and all the time staying sane and happy!

Please note that whilst Belmont will remain the default venue, and location for State finals, competitions may also be held at Clubs or alternative locations throughout the year. Check the web page regularly for updates. The calendar, as published on the web page, will be regarded as the correct version in case of any confusion.

NEW: NEW: Under 15 and Cadet (U17) National Championships 2009

Unfortunately the previous post was incorrect! These championships will be held in Brisbane this year. They will take place from 9th to 13th July . It is a good venue and a great event. We are now investigating where we can stay.
This is a fantastic opportunity for young fencers to experience national competition and the Queensland Fencing Association is determined to put on a good event. Club rivalry can be put aside in the interest of being part of the State Squad and, in addition to the individual events, we will enter as many teams as numbers permit.

We need to have an indication of numbers as early as possible. This will enable us to book the appropriate amount of accommodation.
Fencers are advised to enter as many State competitions as they can manage (even above their own age group) to have individual coaching and to participate in Club training as often as they can. The experience of being part of a coached squad at an exciting event will then be a good one regardless of final position. Previous participants who have finished low in the results have enjoyed the event and come back with greater determination and skill the following year.

If in doubt as to whether or not this is for you please consult your parents and coach.

When you decide that you might go please notify the Secretary together with details of the age groups and weapons to be entered together with whether or not there will be an accompanying parent. A parent is not essential but whilst fencers enjoy the spirit of shared dorms, parents often prefer private rooms and as these are limited we again need to book early!

November 16 at 5.00pm is the WAFA AGM at the Rivervale Community Center in Rivervale before the WAFA DInner. All positions are vacated and nominations can be made up to the AGM. Proxy forms for parents of under 18 members must be completed and given to secretary prior to the meeting.

Hello all,

This is an important notification for all fencers who are interested in competing in the open state finals on the 8th and 9th of November.

The competition will be run as per national competition standards with an emphasis on a weapons check before the competition starts. To facilitate this we will have the weapons check an hour before the commencement of fencing on the day. The competition will be run to the following time table:

Saturday 8th November:
7:30am - Venue will be opened to set-up.
8:00am - Weapons check opened/fencers arrive.
8:50am - Foil role call.
9:00am - Foil commences.

Sunday 9th November:
7:30am - Venue will be opened to set-up.
8:00am - Weapons check opened/fencers arrive.
8:50am - Epee role call.
9:00am - Epee commences.
11:50am - Sabre role call.
12:00pm - Sabre commences.

Please arrive at 8:00am to get your weapons tested - failing to get your weapons tested will exclude you from competition. Also if you are late you will be unable to fence as we will be doing our best to get the competitions started at the stated times.

Please send all entries to wafatournament@gmail.com by Wednesday 5th November clearly stating your name/name of fencer, club and the event you wish to enter (eg Open Mens Foil or Open Womens Foil).

WAFA Annual General Meeting and Presentation Dinner 2008

Street Rivervale.
