National News

Vale John Ramsay

It is with great regret that the AFF advises the Australian Fencing community of the recent passing of John Ramsay.  John Ramsay was the founding President of England Fencing, a long time technical director of British Fencing and also a longstanding friend and supporter of Australian Fencing.  He was a stalwart of and great contributor to the Commonwealth Fencing Federation, serving on the CFF Technical Commission for several decades and more recently overseeing the 2010 Commonwealth Championships and Veteran Championships in Melbourne.

On behalf of the Australian Fencing community, the AFF extends our sincere sympathy to John Ramsay’s family and friends.

Funeral details are expected be announced via the England Fencing website at: www.englandfencing.co.uk

The Australian Fencing Federation is calling for nominations from members of the fencing community who may wish to undertake the role of epee coach for the Australian team going to the Commonwealth Veterans Championships in Singapore, on 27-30 September, 2012.

Preference will be given to epee coaches on the AFF accredited Coaches list who may be able to assist with other weapons, due to the size of the team.

Nominations are accepted through the Portal (http://portal.fencing.org.au), and you will need to register if you have not yet done so.

The camp will be held at the same location as the 2012 National Cadets/Under-15s Championships, in Marrickville (see here), and will cost $50 per participant.  The camp will be run by the AFF's National coaching staff.

Places are limited to 30 fencers per weapon, and participants must register for the camp through the Portal (http://portal.fencing.org.au) by 15 June 2012. You will need to register in the National Portal if you have not yet done so.
