Competition Entries

State Competition

State Competitions are open to all fencers affiliated to the Western Australian Fencing Association. Fencers who are affiliated with other AFF recognised Australian State Fencing Associations, and fencers affiliated through other FIE recognised national bodies are also encouraged to enter.

Fencers need not be affiliated to compete in under 13 level competition, however they must be registered with a Fencing Club recognised by the Western Australian Fencing Association. This is both for insurance purposes, and to ensure appropriate standards and safety measures are applied by competitors. Check with your fencing club to ensure that it is properly affiliated to WAFencing before you enter these competitions.

To enter State competitions, you should e-mail wafatournament@gmail.com by 10pm on the Wednesday before the competition.

National Competition

There are six nationally recognised fencing competitions held annually under the auspices of the Australian Fencing Federation (AFF). These competitions earn fencers national ranking points which are used by selectors to select fencers for international competition. The competitions are as follows:
* AFF#1 DH McKenzie Memorial Fencing Tournament (Open);
* AFF#2 Robyn Chaplin Memorial Fencing Tournament (Open);
* AFF#3 (WA International Tournament and Club Teams Championship when it is held in WA) (Open); and
* AFF#4 Open National Fencing Championships (Open);
* The National Under 15 and Under 17 (Cadet) Championships (Must be 14/16 or younger respectively on 1 January to be eligible to compete);
* The National Under 20 (Junior) and School Championships (Must be 19 or younger on 1 January of the current year to be eligible to compete);

See http://www.ausfencingevents.org for more details of these events.

If you wish to enter any national competition (except those hosted within Western Australia) then you must first sign up to the WA State Squad.

To enter a national competition you must fill in the application form attached (Competition Entry Form_General.pdf), and post your payment ($60 per event in 2010) along with the form to:

PO Box 399
Nedlands WA 6909

Unless otherwise stated, competition entries are due four weeks before the start date of the tournament.

Clubs and coaches may also enter fencers using the National Tournament Entry Form_Groups.pdf. Please note that you take on some responsibility by doing so.

International Competition

To enter International competition, fencers should enter directly with the AFF (subject to eligibility). Fencers will also need an FIE licence, which is also obtained through the AFF.

To be eligible for international competition, fencers will normally have to have obtained at least 25 points at national competition (described above), in the appropriate age group. See the AFF web sites (www.ausfencing.org and www.ausfencingevents.org) for the selection policy and other details.
